Understanding the numbers in the Buys and Sells report, why the calculations were chosen, and how to use the report with clients.

This report details all of the buys and sells that have occurred within an account or across all accounts in a household. This report is at a transaction level in contrast to the realized gain loss report which displays transactions at a tax lot level. 

What is included in the number you are looking at? (calculations, source, etc.)

This report displays all buy and sell activity. It contains the security, transaction type, trade date, quantity of shares, and dollar amount. 

Why have we chosen to include and/or calculate the number the way we do?

The data contained is taken directly from the custodian and formatted similarly. It is easy to search and filter across periods of time and security. 

How can this report be used in a client review to help boost your clients' confidence, increase transparency, and answer questions?

This report is particularly useful for keeping an open and transparent advisor client relationship through a clean, easy to understand record of your activity in client accounts. Consider the following tips and best practices to leverage this report in your client reviews:

  • Provides transparency into advisors action in the client's portfolio
